“Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions. The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you will have even more to express gratitude for.” —Zig Ziglar
“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity…. It turns problems into gifts, failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events.” —Melodie Beatty
“Whatever our individual troubles and challenges may be, it’s important to pause every now and then to appreciate all that we have, on every level. We need to literally “count our blessings,” give thanks for them, allow ourselves to enjoy them, and relish the experience of prosperity we already have.” —Shakti Gawain
“Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist merely of words. Gratitude is shown in acts.” —Henri Frederic Amiel
“As I express my gratitude, I become more deeply aware of it. And the greater my awareness, the greater my need to express it. What happens here is a spiraling ascent, a process of growth in ever expanding circles around a steady center.” —Brother David Steindl-Rast
“At times, our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.” —Albert Schweitzer
patient EXPERIENCE
— from FELIXSTOWE, Suffolk, uk
“Whilst facing some concerns around my health earlier this year, I knew I was looking for a sustainable way to improve my health.
This is when I Googled 'Ayurveda Suffolk' in a desperate attempt to find someone locally who could help. I had heard about Ayurveda the previous year and believed in its philosophy of using food and lifestyle for health.
This is when I discovered the wonderful Suneeta Lakshmi.
The guidance and support I have received have been insightful, informative, life-saving, and certainly life-changing.
From my initial email enquiry, I was contacted by Suneeta who answered any questions I had and made me feel that I was in the driving seat of my healing journey, not giving up my agency but that she was invested in me and my journey.
The assessment was thorough, and I felt held through the process. The questions were in-depth enough to gauge my health history and discuss present symptoms. It was a lot. It was at this point that I felt the potential significance of what was to come.
Following this, I received a clear elimination plan which included activities such as morning walks by water, and gentle movement not intense (I had previously been throwing on my running shoes first thing as a way of ‘taking care’ of myself).
The plan included suggested recipes to follow, an explanation of what the foods were to do (clear ama), and as a vegan, my dietary preferences were also considered.
I joke that lentils saved my life. I think they certainly helped bring me back to me, learning what foods were right for my dosha (Pitta) and Suneeta Lakshmi helped me to understand what the different elements meant and that the substantial fasting I had been practicing before was perhaps exacerbating my symptoms more.
I am now so much more aware of what works for me and although I still feel in some form of recovery (having been signed off work for four months with stress), I have now acquired the blueprint to nourish and maintain my health.
I no longer feel like I am surviving, more that I am thriving and able to see a clearer path for myself, my future, and my life because of this incredible tool that is Ayurveda.
We had follow-up consultations which allowed space to reflect on my health journey. Here I was able to discuss the fears I had about being flexible with the plan for fear of not maintaining my ‘best’ health but Suneeta Lakshmi reminded me that the plan says to ‘favour’ these foods and activities.
Of course, doing something from a restrictive mindset brings that negative energy with it, so I learned to be flexible, prioritise the things that work, not to skip meals because I haven’t got the ‘right’ foods in. Life happens and a meal shared with friends or family that may not be made with the recommended foods can still be nourishing because of the environment.
Realising it is not just the food, or the environment but also the intention behind the action of everything I do has allowed me to continue working on nourishing the relationship I have with myself (along with the support of a therapist I work with for my mental health who also, it turns out, is familiar with Ayurveda being from an Indian background).
Now I recognise the beauty in life, in presence, in being.
I knew this before but now I feel it so much more.
I take myself out for the slowest of walks every morning to soak up life without my phone, no headphones or distractions, simply immersing myself in what the world has to offer us.
It makes me feel capable of great things. I have waited a long time to get to this point and now I feel like I have been able to remove my biggest block, myself, because now I am considering and prioritising my needs, keeping nourished, making time to rest, create and be a witness to this life.
My work is with vulnerable community groups so I need to stay grounded and balanced or I can’t help others.
This morning I watched fish swim and play in the river,
I watched the haze lift as the sun rose and I watched a kingfisher fly past me.
Now, thanks to Suneeta Lakshmi Lies, I feel connected to the world around me, and with that comes magnificent inspiration for myself, my life, and how I want to contribute to my community, and the wider world.
Thank you so much, words can’t do justice to the transformation I have experienced.
~ Thank you for you.
